5 Myrtle Beach Golf Courses I’m Revisiting in 2025
With more than 90 courses dotting the Myrtle Beach golf landscape, it’s impossible to play them all in a single year—though many of us dream of trying. As I make plans for the New Year, here are five courses I haven’t teed off at in the last 12 months that are near the top of my 2025 play list.
● If a year passes without playing Willbrook Plantation Golf Club, a mistake has been made, and it’s a sin I committed in 2024. This Dan Maples design features the Lowcountry beauty some of its more highly acclaimed neighbors offer while delivering great value. Combine the majestic oak trees draped in Spanish moss with Maples’ design chops, and Willbrook is a great addition to any trip. (Willbrook top photo)
● It has been way too long since I’ve teed it up at Sea Trail, and the 2024 renovation of the Byrd Course is all the impetus I need to return. Architect Tim Cate led a project that included the installation of new TifEagle bermudagrass greens, the overhaul of every bunker on the course, and an assortment of other upgrades. Throw in the opening of 55 Bistro Bar and Sunset Prime, and the Byrd Course is a must-play in the New Year.
● Tidewater Golf Club is on the (very) short list of the Myrtle Beach area’s prettiest courses and following what is reported to be a dramatic renovation project, I’m itching to return. With nine holes that play along either the Intracoastal Waterway or Cherry Grove, Tidewater offers unforgettable visuals, and the new bunkers are another upgrade for a top 100-caliber layout.
● Wild Wing’s Avocet Course at the top of my 2025 priority list. The Jeff Brauer-Larry Nelson design is always a good time. From the throat tightening difficulty of the par 4 sixth hole to the drivable par-4 14th hole – it’s only 256 yards from the white tees! – and a host of other memorable design features (dual fairways, anyone?) Avocet delivers a round of golf you can’t get at home.
● Willbrook’s Hammock Coast Golf Trail sister course, Founders Club, is also high on the to-do list for 2025. It can be difficult for a course to differentiate itself in Myrtle Beach, but architect Thomas Walker did so at Founders Club. Elevated fairways, surrounded by waste bunkers, create a unique look on a design that is nearly devoid of cart paths. This is an ideal layout to include as part of the Founders Group All Inclusive package, delivering value and a good time. (Founders Club pictured right)
From the charm of Willbrook to the recent upgrades at Sea Trail, there’s no shortage of reasons to revisit these standout courses. Your only regret will be you didn’t get there sooner.
